Thymidine 5′-diphosphate

Pyrimidine Synthesis

Thymidine 5′-diphosphate (dTDP) serves as a critical intermediate in pyrimidine synthesis, acting as a substrate for the enzyme thymidylate kinase (TMPK) in the conversion of thymidine 5'-monophosphate (dTMP) to thymidine 5'-triphosphate (dTTP). This phosphorylation process necessitates ATP and Mg2+, making dTDP essential for nucleotide metabolism. Measurement of dTDP levels provides insight into TMPK activity and the regulation of DNA synthesis pathways, making it an important tool in biochemical research and studies of cell proliferation.
