Trihydroxycoprostane

Bile Acid Intermediate

Trihydroxycoprostane (THCP) is a polyhydroxysterane compound acting as a crucial intermediate in bile acid biosynthesis from cholesterol. It plays an important role as a sterol metabolite, resulting from interactions between host and gut microbiota. Research applications of THCP include mechanistic studies related to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and disorders of bile acid metabolism.
