Trimethoprim N-oxide

Human Urinary Metabolite

Trimethoprim N-oxide is a human urinary metabolite produced by the oxidation of nitrogen atoms within the pyrimidine ring of trimethoprim. The primary enzyme responsible for its formation is CYP1A2, predominantly active in human liver microsomes. This metabolite serves as an important biomarker for studies on drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics, particularly in understanding the effects of trimethoprim therapy.
