Tunicamycin

ER Stress Inducer

Tunicamycin is an ER stress inducer that inhibits N-linked glycosylation by blocking GlcNAc phosphotransferase (GPT). This action leads to the accumulation of unfolded proteins within the endoplasmic reticulum, resulting in ER stress, DNA synthesis inhibition, and G1 phase cell cycle arrest. Additionally, Tunicamycin exhibits antimicrobial activity against gram-positive bacteria, yeasts, fungi, and viruses while demonstrating anti-cancer potential. Notably, it also enhances exosome release in cervical cancer cells, making it valuable for research in cancer biology and cellular stress response pathways.
