Upacicalcet sodium

Calcimimetic Agent

Upacicalcet sodium is a non-peptide calcimimetic that functions as an agonist of the calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR), with an EC50 value of 10.8 nM. It effectively decreases serum intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) and calcium levels, alleviating hypocalcemia and associated gastrointestinal complications. In preclinical models of adenine-induced secondary hyperparathyroidism, Upacicalcet sodium has been shown to mitigate vascular calcification and improve bone disorders by inhibiting cortical pore formation and reducing bone fibrosis in chronic kidney disease conditions. This compound serves as a valuable tool for investigating secondary hyperparathyroidism and related bone pathologies.
