Acriflavine hydrochloride

Antiseptic Agent

Acriflavine hydrochloride is a fluorescent acridine dye that serves as an effective antiseptic agent. Its primary mechanism involves inhibition of HIF-1 by preventing the dimerization of HIF-1α and HIF-1β subunits, as well as blocking the interaction of monocarboxylate transporter 4 (MCT4) with Basigin. This compound has applications in cancer research, particularly in breast cancer, brain tumors, and chronic myeloid leukemia, and it also acts as a potent inhibitor of the papain-like protease (PLpro) involved in SARS-CoV-2 infection.
