Cetalkonium chloride

Antiseptic Agent

Cetalkonium chloride is a cationic surfactant that serves as an effective antiseptic agent. It exhibits anti-inflammatory properties and enhances the precorneal residence time and bioavailability of concomitant therapeutic compounds. By interacting with the negatively charged bacterial cell membranes, cetalkonium chloride disrupts membrane integrity, resulting in leakage of cellular contents and ultimately causing bacterial cell death. This compound is commonly utilized in the formulation of topical agents targeting infections in the mouth, throat, and eye.
