D-Histidine

Anti-biofilm Agent

D-Histidine is an anti-biofilm agent that specifically targets bacterial quorum sensing systems, including the RhlI/RhlR pathway, to inhibit biofilm formation. It functions by non-covalently binding to bacterial regulatory factors or copper ion complexes, leading to the downregulation of quorum sensing-related gene expression and reduction in virulence factors, such as alginate and proteases. Additionally, D-Histidine promotes disintegration of established biofilms and enhances sensitivity to antibiotics, while also serving as an efficient catalyst for salt-induced peptide formation (SIPF), facilitating the condensation of amino acids into dipeptides like dialanine and dilysine.
