Enterobactin

Siderophore

Enterobactin is a siderophore produced by Gram-negative bacteria, exhibiting a high affinity for iron. It plays a critical role in iron acquisition during Salmonella typhimurium infection of macrophages while also diminishing the antibacterial responses of these immune cells. Additionally, Enterobactin is involved in the oxidative stress response in Escherichia coli, where it can be hydrolyzed by Fes to display antioxidant properties through the scavenging of free radicals. This compound is valuable for research into bacterial virulence, host-pathogen interactions, and oxidative stress mechanisms.
