Ganciclovir sodium

Antiviral Agent

Ganciclovir sodium is a nucleoside analogue that serves as an antiviral agent primarily targeting cytomegalovirus (CMV) and exhibits inhibitory effects against other herpesviruses, including HSV-1, HSV-2, and various adenovirus serotypes. This compound effectively inhibits the in vitro replication of these viruses, showcasing a significant biological activity with an IC50 of 5.2 μM against feline herpesvirus type-1 (FHV-1). Additionally, Ganciclovir sodium's ability to penetrate the brain makes it a valuable tool for studying viral infections and therapeutic interventions in neurovirology.
