Hexacyclinol

Antimicrobial Agent

Hexacyclinol is an antimicrobial agent that exhibits moderate activity against Gram-positive bacteria. It effectively inhibits the production of oxidants by polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNL) stimulated by zymosan at concentrations ranging from 4 to 40 μg/mL. Additionally, Hexacyclinol demonstrates significant cytotoxic effects on L-930 and K562 cancer cell lines, with IC50 values of 1.4 μg/mL and 0.4 μg/mL, respectively, while showing an IC50 of 10 μg/mL against HeLa cells. Furthermore, Hexacyclinol possesses anti-Plasmodium activity, with an IC50 of 2.4 μg/mL against Plasmodium falciparum, making it a valuable compound for research in antimicrobial and antitumor studies.
