Penicillinase

Penicillinase

Penicillinase is a beta-lactamase enzyme that specifically targets and inactivates beta-lactam antibiotics by hydrolyzing the peptide bond of the beta-lactam ring. This enzymatic activity renders antibiotics such as penicillin ineffective against bacterial strains equipped with this resistance mechanism. Penicillinase is commonly utilized in research applications focusing on antibiotic resistance, enzyme kinetics, and the development of novel antimicrobial agents.
