Prothionamide

Anti-tuberculosis Agent

Prothionamide is an orally active thioamide compound that serves as an effective anti-tuberculosis agent by targeting Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium leprae. It acts as a substrate for OCT1 and forms a covalent adduct with NAD, serving as a potent inhibitor of the enzyme InhA. Prothionamide demonstrates significant antibacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of approximately 0.5 µg/mL. This reagent is valuable for scientific research focused on tuberculosis and leprosy.
