Pyrocoll

Anticancer Agent

Pyrocoll is a bacterial metabolite derived from Streptomyces, functioning primarily as an anticancer agent. It exhibits significant inhibitory effects on various bacterial strains, including A. aurescens, A. globiformis, A. oxydans, A. pascens, and R. erythropolis, with minimum inhibitory concentrations ranging from 1 to 10 μg/mL. In cancer research, Pyrocoll demonstrates potent growth inhibition of HepG2, MCF-7, and HMO2 cell lines, with GI50 values of 0.28, 0.42, and 2.2 μg/mL, respectively. Additionally, it displays antimalarial and anti-trypanosomal activity, with IC50 values of 1.19 and 1.97 μg/mL against P. falciparum and T. rhodesiense, respectively.
