Reutericyclin
Antimicrobial Agent
Reutericyclin is a potent antimicrobial agent that selectively targets Gram-positive bacteria. It demonstrates bactericidal and bacteriostatic properties by dissipating transmembrane potential, effectively eliminating pathogens such as Clostridium difficile and Staphylococcus aureus, including their spores. Reutericyclin is resilient to enzymatic degradation and displays an iron-chelating function, making it advantageous in therapeutic applications. Furthermore, it has shown promise in addressing complications like weight gain induced by Risperidone through modulation of gut microbiota and enhancing energy utilization. Research applications include investigations into Clostridium difficile infections, antibiotic-resistant staphylococcal infections, and obesity management.
