Sideroxylin

Antimicrobial Agent

Sideroxylin is a C-methylated flavone derived from Callistemon lanceolatus, functioning primarily as an antimicrobial agent. It demonstrates significant antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and additionally exhibits anti-cancer properties, inhibiting ovarian cancer cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis. The mechanism includes DNA fragmentation, depolarization of the mitochondrial membrane, and the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), making it valuable for research in both antimicrobial and cancer biology.
